… You have likely heard that the word in our scriptures for Spirit also means breath and wind. Both are apt analogies for the spirit of the Holy. …

Yet, in today’s scripture passage, Jesus refers to the Holy Spirit as an advocate. I have often heard this description of the Holy Spirit – an advocate – described as similar to a lawyer; one who stands with us to defend us, telling us what to say to defend or witness to Jesus in the world, and likewise defending us before God’s judgment. But I think this picture of lawyer as advocate misses the meaning intended here, because Jesus references himself as our advocate as well. …
