The First Christian Church Des Moines Justice in Action Committee learned that one of the most pressing needs of many unaccompanied migrant children seeking asylum in the United States is good, legal counsel. Upon entrance to the U.S., these children have the right to apply for asylum and their cases heard by an immigration judge. Legal counsel skilled in immigration law is essential to a fair legal proceeding. In light of this, on September 7, First Christian Church will collect a special offering for Iowa Justice for Our Neighbors (JFON), which provides such services. JFON is a faith-driven ministry, welcoming immigrants into our churches and communities by providing free, high-quality immigration legal services, education, and advocacy. Established by the United Methodist Committee on Relief in 1999, JFON helps people all over the world. Its services are available to all without regard to race, gender, or religion. Please show that Iowa is indeed welcoming, and give generously on September 7.
