Whether clergy, faith leader, or member of a house of worship, you are invited to an important exploratory meeting to discuss the establishment of spaces of Sanctuary in Iowa.

With President Trump’s executive orders adversely affecting the lives of our immigrant neighbors, it is time for communities of faith to consider their involvement in a sanctuary movement. Nobody knows the full impact of the orders already signed, much less what the administration might do next; therefore, it is wise to prepare for the worst while praying for the best.

A “Faith Communities as Sanctuary” information session will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 pm on Tuesday, February 7, at First Christian Church (2500 University Ave, Des Moines). Please consider attending and/or sending a delegation from your faith community. Recognizing there are a number of legal questions related to the establishment of Sanctuary spaces, we have invited local immigration lawyers to present their expertise.

Please RSVP by contacting Rev. Ryan Arnold (First Christian Church) or Erica Johnson (AFSC Iowa) at EJohnson@afsc.org.
