First Christian Church’s first Conference for Faith & Learning is coming to on October 17-19 and an exciting weekend of activities is planned!
Focused on the theme of covenant, participants will learn about biblical and historical covenants, how covenant impacts our lives as Christians, and tools for living successfully in covenant with one another. Through keynote presentations, break-out sessions, and a time of service all adults will have the opportunity to hear and respond to God’s call to live in covenant.
The weekend wouldn’t be complete without times of fellowship – including a reception at Mars Café on Friday evening (8-10 pm) with a live local band providing entertainment.
Separate activities are planned on Saturday for our children and youth. (Nursery care is available for children ages 0-5.) Elementary age children will learn together about covenant through scripture, video, and conversation. They will play games, bake cookies to thank our local law enforcement personnel, and make crafts. Our middle school and high school youth will spend the morning at New Directions Shelter helping to clean and stock their food pantry. Then in the afternoon, they will share together themes of covenant through video and conversation as they enjoy time at Smokey Row Café.
Both groups will join the adults for an intergenerational service project on Saturday afternoon. Multiple options are planned for varying interest and ability. One project will work with Forest Avenue Outreach, a faith based non-profit working on the edge of the Drake neighborhood. We will help maintain their community garden, including options for children and adults. An indoor project is also planned.
Make plans to join us for all or part of this fun-filled weekend. Cost is $5 per person, with a $15 family maximum at the door, and scholarships are available. RSVP today through the church office.
